Additional forces to be deployed in Meghalaya after poll candidate’s murder

SHILLONG: Following the brutal murder of NCP candidate, Johnathone Sangma in a village in Williamngar, the State Government has decided to deploy additional companies of Central Armed Paramilitary forces in all the vulnerable areas.

A day after the gruesome incident, the overall security of the state was reviewed in a high level meeting attended by  Additional Chief Secretary in charge Home,  DGP and other senior officers.

A statement issued by the Commissioner and Secretary of the political department said that   A Deputy Inspector General( DIG)   will be stationed at Williamngar exclusively  to supervise the ongoing operations against the militants.

The DG has also proceeded to  Garo Hills for intensive review of the security situation and to intensify combing operations in the vulnerable areas.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of all the Districts have been asked to review and properly assess the security requirements of all the contesting candidates besides intelligence machinery has also been geared up to so that such incidents can be prevented.
