District Investment and Skill Summit to be held in all Assam districts

GUWAHATI:  Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed the Skill Development Mission to hold District Investment and Skill Summit in all the districts of the state for skilling the local youths and encourage the entrepreneurs of those areas. He said that District Industrial Centres (DICs) should be entrusted with the responsibility to organise the events in partnership with private industrial players.

He chaired a review meeting of the Transport Department and Assam Skill Development Mission at his conference hall at Janata Bhawan on Tuesday and directed the departments to take a few new initiatives.

He said the private industries must also be encouraged to join hands with the government to meet the government’s target of skilling three lakh youths of the state, the chief minister added. It was informed in the meeting that 400 youths of will be skilled as part of the MoU signed by the Assam Government with Singapore Government who will be imparted training from June this year and 30 instructors from the state would visit Singapore for receiving training for providing quality skill training in the state.  Initiatives under start-up training programme would enable 7200 youths who are undergoing training at 249 centres across the state from January to March this year apart from large pool of youths to be skilled under other state heads and PMKVY, the chief minister was apprised.

The Transport Department informed that 5 Volvo buses have already been acquired till now while 34 more will be added soon. Likewise, 175 Mercedes buses will also be procured for boosting the ASTC bus services in the state. The chief minister directed both PWD and Transport Department to work together for improving the road communication in the state and he instructed theses two departments to coordinate at district level and involve agencies like NHIDCL, NHAI etc  for bringing faster development in road transport sector.

Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Legal Adviser to the Chief Minister Shantanu Bharali, Chief Secretary V.K Pipersenia, Principal Secretary to the chief minister Sanjay Lohia, Commissioner and Secretary of Transport Department Ashutosh Agnihotri, MD of Assam Skill Development Mission Anand Prakash Tiwari were present in the meeting.
