Nine engineering students arrested after vandalism in marriage party

GUWAHATI: Nine students of state government-run Assam Engineering College (AEC) were arrested by Guwahati police after they had resorted to cane charge and ransacking in a marriage ceremony in the vicinity of the college campus on Tuesday  night after two of the students from the college had been allegedly beaten up by some persons from the marriage party.

A group of students from the boys’ Hostel Number 1 of the AEC allegedly ransacked furniture, broke glass panes of parked vehicles and even beat up the bride and bridegroom besides snatching away one gold chain.

The CPRO of Assam Police informed that a case (No. 231/18) Under Sections 147/148/149/447/325/527/387/307/395/506 IPC have been registered in this connection in Jalukbari police station. The arrested students were identified as Gautom Mayong, Diganta Nath, Manas Boisya, Mrinmoy Chakrabarty, Manash Sarma, Hirak Jyoti Nath, Sivam Karmakar, Subham Kalita, Harsajit Sarma.

The AEC students resorted to vandalism after two students of the college were allegedly beaten up by some persons in the marriage party. The injured students then informed the students of Hostel No. 1 of the college about it prompting the students to resort to vandalism in the marriage party.
