SHILLONG: GNLA chief Sohan Shira is suspected to be the mastermind behind Sunday’s gruesome IED explosion at Samanda block in East Garo Hills in which Williamnagar NCP candidate Jonathone Sangma and three others were killed.
East Garo Hills SP RG Momin on Tuesday said the police had launched an operation on Monday night after receiving a tip off that Sohan Shira was in a village in the district and police teams were immediately dispatched to apprehend him.
However, the news that police was hot on their heels had reached the militants and they fled the area.
The district police received further information about Sohan’s whereabouts in the village and more teams were sent the next morning.
Momin said combing operations have been intensified in the district while botching rumours that one of the injured victims of the blast had passed away.
As per latest reports, while one of the injured is on ventilator support two others are out of danger.
