Gandhi’s visit throws traffic out of gear in city

SHILLONG: The visit of AICC president, Rahul Gandhi to Shillong for a brief of two hours resulted in chaos as the traffic movement was stopped in several places from where the convoy passed.
While Gandhi reached and started his address in Khyndailad, a large number of vehicles were seen crawling till IGP.
There was no arrangement on the part of the district administration to address the inconveniences caused to the students.
An official from the District Administration said that political parties usually has to take a permission before holding any meetings or public rally but the matter of traffic management is done by the State Police in consolation with the Special Protection Group.
The SPG decides every little details of the visit of any VIP to Meghalaya in consultation with the local police.
The official also said that drills were conducted few days before for the visit of any VIPs to the state.
