SHILLONG: Meghalaya police have rubbished media reports in Assam which claimed that self-styled commander-in-chief of a Mizo outfit, Lal Minthang Changte, is likely behind the assassination of NCP candidate Jonathone Sangma and three others.
Changte was arrested from Tezpur.
Meghalaya DGP S B Singh said on Thursday that Assam police have confirmed that the arrested man has nothing to do with the incident involving Jonathone in East Garo Hills.
“It is not true that the arrested person is behind the killing of the candidate,” Singh asserted.
Earlier, the DGP had hinted the involvement of GNLA militants behind the gruesome incident.
