SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has assured that the Central government would provide all necessary security to the state.
Addressing a BJP meeting organised to drum up support for Pynthorumkhrah candidate AL Hek at Nongmynsong on Saturday evening, Rijiju said peace is a top priority for Meghalaya’s development and that the Centre would provide security to the state not only internally but even at the inter-state border with Assam and international border with Bangladesh.
Stating that the Central government could not implement many schemes because the ruling Congress government came in the way, he said the BJP would expose all the state government’s scams after coming to power on March 3.
“If you want to root out corruption, you have to vote out the Congress,” he said, adding that the BJP wants to make Meghalaya the fastest-growing state in the country.
Earlier, Union Minister of State for Tourism KJ Alphons questioned Rahul Gandhi’s contribution for the uplift of Christians in Meghalaya even as he went hammer and tongs at the Congress-led state government.
Hek, who was also present on the occasion, said it would be a great honour for the state to have its first chief minister from Pynthorumkhrah, adding he was confident that the people would select him by a huge margin.
A crowd of around 2000-3000 was present at the meeting where top leaders of the BJP campaigned for Hek.
