SHILLONG: General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Ghalam Nabi Azad claimed that the Congress would take the state to new heights even as he observed that the Congress government in Meghalaya occupied the top spot in terms of performance.

He spoke to reporters on his visit to the glass mosque in Laban on Sunday where he expressed 100 per cent confidence in the prospect of Congress in the polls as he pointed to the “extra ordinary work done by the CM (Mukul Sangma)” while also rating Meghalaya as the best performing state in the country.

Pointing accusing fingers at the BJP, the Congress leader alleged at there had been incidents of lynching across country where minorities were being harassed because of restrictions being made on food habits. “Fridges and utensils are being searched to see what sort of food people eat,” he added.

Nabi said, “I forewarn the people of Meghalaya not to be misled by the BJP.”
