TURA: The last day of poll campaigning on Sunday, saw contesting candidates dashing off to areas under their constituencies and making last ditch efforts to woo the voters.

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma who is contesting from two constituencies- Ampati and Songsak – was at both places on the last day of campaigning. Sangma first went to Songsak and then proceeded to his home constituency, Ampati in the afternoon.

Tura MP and NPP National President, Conrad K Sangma was at Salmanpara to drum up support for party candidate Ian Botham K Sangma. Sangma also held meetings at Mahendranganj in support of Sanjay A Sangma who is the party’s candidate for the constituency.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s arch rival at Ampati, the BJP candidate Bakul Hajong put an end to his campaign by holding meetings at Sabtoka, Betasing and Murkuti.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and NPP candidate from North Tura, Thomas A Sangma covered three different areas under the constituency on the last day. Sangma held a meeting in the morning at Tura Market and then proceeded to Rongram. He finally ended his campaigning at Ganol A’pal near Goeragre.

It was only South Tura sitting MLA and NCP candidate, John Leslee K Sangma who stayed away from campaigning on the last day in view of it being a Sunday. According to Sangma, he winded up his campaign on Saturday by holding final meetings at Matchakolgre and Lower Sunny Hills localities of the town.
