SHILLONG: The campaign for Tuesday’s Assembly elections is finally over and most of the candidates are confident of victory after “successful campaigns”.
East Shillong UDP candidate Bindo M Lanong said the campaign was successful for him as well as for the party. The senior leader feels that the party will not fall short of its target of 20 seats and that along with its allies UDP will get 23-24 seats.
On the other hand, Nongkrem NPP candidate HS Shylla said everything was fine during the campaign and he is confident that people will vote him to power.
According to Shylla, the current MLA (Ardent Basaiawmoit) took out a rally in the constituency and later HSPSP supporters were brought in from places like Sohiong, Mowkynriew and Mawryngkneng to participate.
He also claimed that the bikers who were rallying for the independent candidates were paid Rs 500 each and belonged to other constituencies.
Mylliem Congress candidate Ronnie V. Lyngdoh also asserted that the campaign went according to plan.
North Shillong BJP candidate JA Lyngdoh said his campaign was “fantastic” and that he is confident of winning.
Nongthymmai UDP candidate Jemino Mawthoh said the support for him was overwhelming during the campaign. “I can see that people are hungry for change in the state as they have lost confidence in the Congress-led government,” he said. He also said money power will be heavy this time but he believes that electors in the constituency will vote against it.
