SHILLONG: The largest chunk of central security forces has been deployed in the Garo Hills to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
The state police are putting extra efforts to ensure free and fair polls in the Garo Hills after NCP candidate Jonathone Sangma was killed in an IED blast recently. Things are on the boil in the Garo Hills after GNLA chief Sohan D Shira was shot dead in a police encounter a few days back.
DGP SB Singh said on Tuesday elaborate security arrangements are in place for the polls, adding that 106 companies of security forces have been deployed throughout the state.
The police chief further pointed out that all vulnerable and critical polling stations have been allotted special sections of the Central Armed Police Forces and volatile areas have been covered by separate sections of central forces.
Asked about the situation in Garo Hills, Singh said, “The largest number of central forces and SF-10 has been deployed in South and East Garo Hills.”
