SHILLONG/ JOWAI: The Election Department has recommended repolling in a booth at Kyndong Tuber under Raliang due to mix-up of the EVM. The date of poll will be decided by the Election Commission.
Initially, the EVM’s ballot unit and control unit malfunctioned several times and later there was a human error while replacing the EVM.
“Instead of brining the EVM that was supposed to come for Kyndong Tuber in Raliang constituency, the BL engineer and polling officers brought the control unit and ballot unit of Mowkaiaw constituency and later the polling was stopped,” Kharkongor said.
He said the mistake was detected after the VVPAT machine was giving different prints. “VVPAT prints helped in identifying the human error,” he said.
The Election Department received a report from the deputy commissioner and it was sent to the Election Commission for a final word on repolling.
Earlier, there were allegations that whichever button was pressed at Kyndong Tuber, only lotus was visible in the VVPAT.
When voters raised an alarm, the presiding officer informed the district returning officer who sent a team for a spot verification. “One of the voting machines was malfunctioning and the officials have recommended for repoll,” said a local leader in the village.
This was, however, denied by the CEO who termed it as a rumour.
