Neiphiu Rio to take oath as Nagaland CM on March 8

GUWAHATI: The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has appointed Neiphiu Rio as the Chief Minister of Nagaland under clause (1) of Article 164 of the Constitution of India, according to Raj Bhavan office in Kohima.

In a letter addressed to Neiphiu Rio, the Governor stated that he had received letters of support in favour of Rio from legislators of BJP, JD(U) and an Independent MLA besides NDPP legislators.

The Governor has proposed to administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the Council of Minister on 8th March 2018 at 11:30 am at Khouchiezie (Local Ground), Kohima.

The Governor has also requested Neiphiu Rio to prove his majority on the floor of the House on or before 16th March 2018.

Meanwhile, has accepted the resignation submitted by Chief Minister T R Zeliang on 6th March 2018.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, the Chief Minister tendered resignation of the Council of Ministers headed by him. The Governor requested T R Zeliang to continue in office till an alternative arrangement was made.

Earlier, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda along with Arun Singh National BJP General Secretary, elected BJP MLAs, President BJP State Unit, Vizasolie Lhounghu and others called on the Governor  to submit the letter of support including the signatures of all 12 BJP MLAs to the leadership of Neiphiu Rio in the formation of the New Government in the State.

The BJP legislators also informed the Governor that Y Patton has been elected as the BJP Leader for the 13th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

President NPP, Ato Yepthomi along with NPP MLA, L Khumo and General Secretary NDPP, Benjamin also called on the Governor to submit the NPP letter of support to the NDPP-BJP Chief Ministerial candidate Neiphiu Rio signed by the State NPP President.

The Governor instructed the State NPP to submit a letter of support signed by their National President and also the support signatures of both the MLAs at the earliest.

Meanwhile, officials from the Election Commission of India along with the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, IAS submitted the notification constituting the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly to the Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya at Raj Bhavan Kohima. Thereafter the Governor Acharya dissolved the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
