SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has called for timely completion and proper utilisation of funds earmarked for all government projects in the state.
Speaking to the media after the first cabinet meeting of the new government, Sangma said the state has still a long way to go so far as timely execution of projects is concerned.
“There is support from different agencies and the Centre to help boost the development process in the state but I think it requires committed efforts at the state level to ensure that utilisation of funds is done in a proper manner and projects are completed on time,” he said.
At the first cabinet meeting of the new government, the chief secretary briefed the ministers on different issues as well as schemes and programmes that are in the pipeline.
The chief minister informed that apart from discussing the upcoming state budget in the cabinet meeting he held discussions with the finance department in order to gauge the financial position of the state.
According to Sangma, discussions on the necessary details pertaining to the budget are being carried out.
Asked if the much-hyped Integrated Basin Development Livelihood programme of the previous government would be continued, Sangma said the government would be positive in its thinking as it is against criticising anybody.
“If there is something good which the past government has done, we will look into it and try to improve on it,” he said.
Sangma also maintained it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that if any initiative is good it ought to be continued and if there is fault that should be changed.
Meanwhile, the common minimum programme of the government will take some time as the government will form a committee comprising all parties and try to create one document as every political party has its own identity and ideology.
