Over 50k appear for SSLC exams in state

SHILLONG/TURA: The examinations for Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) under the Meghalaya Board of School Examination (MBoSE) began on Wednesday, a day after the higher secondary exams commenced.
Over 50,000 students from 1,661 SSLC institutions are appearing for the examinations in 137 centres. The Shillong region has 78 centres and Tura has 59.
The numbers of male and female students are 23,551 and 27,765, respectively.
There are 594 affiliated institutions with 424 in Shillong region and 170 in Tura. The number of unaffiliated SSLC institutions is 1,067 (728 in Shillong region and 339 in Tura). Female candidates are more than their male counterparts in all categories like regular-I (males 9,675 and females 12,159), regular-II (males 5,519 and females 6,569), non-regular (males 5,126 and females 5,306), and private (males 1,021 and females 1,080).
In the compartmental category, there are 2,206 males and 2,649 females and six candidates appeared for improvement (males 4 and females 2).
HSSLC exams
The examinations for Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), which started on Tuesday, are being conducted at 101 centres with 62 in Shillong region and 39 in Tura. The number of HSSLC institutions is 322 of which 244 are affiliated (167 in Shillong and 77 in Tura). Of the remaining unaffiliated institutions, 56 are in the Shillong region and 22 in Tura.
Arts section is sending the maximum number of students at 23,785 with female candidates surpassing males by over 2,000.
In Science section, the number of female candidates is more at 1,953 and males at 1,771. Commerce stream has 1,452 male students and 873 female students.
The number of students in vocational stream is six.
Earlier, MBoSE Controller of Examinations T R Laloo, when contacted, said the examinations were being conducted smoothly with no cases of cheating, expulsion or question paper leaks.
