9 Synod goers injured in accident

SHILLONG: Nine persons, who were on their way to a religious gathering at Sutnga in Jaintia Hills, were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident on Sunday morning. The accident occurred at Lad Smit, about 18km from here, 7.30-7.45 am.
The SUV, a Mahindra Marshal with Meghalaya registration, was ferrying passengers from Thangbnai village in East Khasi Hills’ Mawkynrew who were to participate in the religious gathering of KJP Synod Mihngi. The SUV was hit by a tourist vehicle with Assam registration that was on its way to Laitlum.
The injured persons, including four women and a child, were admitted in Shillong Civil Hospital. Doctors at the hospital said a woman and two men had serious injuries in the head and chest but they were out of danger.
Mawkynrew MLA and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh visited the injured in the hospital.
According to police, the tourist vehicle was speeding. The driver of the Assam vehicle admitted his mistake and told police that he lost control of his vehicle as he was feeling sleepy. A case was registered at Madanrting police station.
