School bus skids off road, 9 hurt

NONGPOH: In a case of reckless and rash driving, a school bus of Little Star School located at 9 Mile, Baridua, Ri Bhoi district went off road and capsized at Killing was witnessed on Monday.
This incident occurred when the school bus was on its way to school after picking up school students from Jorbil, in which around 9 school children sustained injuries and were rushed to GNRC Hospital, Guwahati.
It was also informed from the general public, that the driver of the school bus identified as Jayanta Inggil (35) was drunk when the incident happened. The driver fled from the site after the bus capsized.
The parents of the students from this school had lodged complaints in the past to the school authority regarding the behavior of the driver but the Principal had always turn a deaf ear to them.
The public also expressed their grave concern over the dilapidated road from Killing to Jorbil.
They blamed the plying of heavy vehicles turned the condition of the road to worst.
They also alleged that there is also an association which had been collecting taxes from the vehicle owners especially heavy vehicles for repairing of the road but this collection of repairing the road had reach nowhere.
However, the Ri Bhoi police are investigating the incident and are trying to nab the driver of the school bus.
