SHILLONG: The full budget of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will be presented on March 27.
“After the discussion of the district budget, the House was prorogued for a few minutes and subsequently the usual session was held,” KHADC Chief Executive Member PN Syiem told reporters on Tuesday.
The Council has preferred full budget to vote on account.
Syiem said KHADC Chairman LG Nongsiej informed the House about the letter written by the executive committee to pass the full budget.
“As per the rules, to pass the full budget, there has to be a circulation of seven days before the session begins.
Hence, we adjourned the session to March 27 to comply with the seven-day (rule),” he said.
Syiem informed that back in the 80s, the KHADC passed a full budget but later switched to vote on account.
“Now that we have reached end of March, it is better to pass the full budget,” he said.
The session for the vote on account was supposed to be held on March 20 but the executive committee of the KHADC and members of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) decided to table a full budget.
