GUWAHATI: Blowing the bugle for the forthcoming panchayat polls in Assam in a massive party workers meeting here on Saturday, the BJP national president Amit Shah asserted that BJP’s ‘vijay rath’ (victory march) had become unstoppable in the Northeast and it would win at least 21 out of the total 25 Lok Sabha seats in the region in the next Parliamentary election in 2019.
Addressing a massive conclave here of over 30,000 BJP’s booth level workers including 25,849 booth committee presidents of Assam, Amit Shah regarding the state of backwardness in the Northeast said, “The Northeast has lagged behind than the rest of the country because of indifferent and negligent attitude of the successive Congress governments at the Centre since Independence. The situation in the Northeast is now looking up because of the numerous development schemes being unleashed by the incumbent BJP-led government at the Centre.
“The people of the Northeast has very well realized the BJP and its PM, Narendra Modi’s sincerity towards fast tracking the development process in the Northeast and that is why BJP and its allies are now in power in seven out of the eight states in the region,” Shah said while exuding Confidence that the BJP will win at least 21 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the Northeast in the next Lok Sabha election.
He pointed out, “When the Sonia-Manmohan government was in the Centre and Congress government led by (Tarun) Gogoi was ruling Assam, the 13th Finance Commission gave only Rs 79,741 crore to Assam. But during the BJP-led NDA regime, the 14th Finance Commission has awarded Rs 1,55,292 crore to Assam. IT speaks for the sincerity of our government towards facilitating development in Assam and the rest of the region.”
He called upon the massive gathering of the party workers to fan out to the rest of the region to ‘safronise’ every road and lane in the region as the party has its biggest strength in the region among the solid base of party workers and office bearers in Assam.
The BJP President stated that the opposition parties led by Congress were stalling the proceedings in the Parliament as they were scared that discussions in the Parliament would bring to the fore the achievements of the BJP-led NDA government during the last four years.
“The Congress is especially scared that two landmark schemes announced by the BJP government — medical insurance cover worth Rs 5 lakh per family to 10 crore families in the country and fixation of remunerative support price for the agricultural produce that will now be 1.5 times more than what the farmer has spent to produce the products — will get highlighted before the people if the Parliament is allowed to function normally.”
, “It will be better if Rahul ji (Congress president) allows the Parliament to run in the interest of the nation. Non-functioning of the Parliament has caused huge loss to the national exchequer. The BJP is quite capable of highlighting the achievements of its government before the people as it is the party with largest mass base in the country.”
“The BJP and its allies have won all the Assembly elections held to various states since the party came to power at the Centre in 2014. The Opposition parties especially Congress just can’t digest the harsh reality. They are now venting their pent up frustration by stalling the proceedings in the Parliament. The BJP is ready to face the No Confidence Motion as it has numbers on its side. You (Opposition) just allow the Parliament to function,” the BJP president said.
