SHILLONG: The process of recruitment for the post of officer Scale-I and office assistant of Meghalaya Rural Bank has been put on hold following the controversy over job reservation.
Dilip Guha, the chairman of the Meghalaya Rural Bank, said the bank has not issued any appointment letter and will not issue any until the matter is cleared.
On Friday, KHNAM MLA Adelbert Nongrum also raised the matter in the Assembly.
Moving a zero hour notice, Nongrum said the Meghalaya Rural Bank has inducted 2 ST, 4 SC, 8 OBC, 18 general candidates for the post and most of the new recruits are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
He added that the bank has followed its own reservation policy without complying with the state policy of 40 Khasi and Jaintia candidates, 40 Garo candidates, three for other tribes and 17 general. He said the recruits don’t speak the local languages and have no knowledge about the state.
In reply, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma assured that he would follow up the issues raised by the MLA. Earlier, HYC protested against the recruitment while Khasi Students’ Union met the MRB officials on Thursday to discuss the matter.
