SHILLONG: With the Supreme Court on Friday asking several states, including Meghalaya, to appoint a Lokayukta, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the selection committee will meet soon to decide on the anti-graft panel.
In a statement to the media on Saturday, the chief minister said since the chairman of the first committee refused to accept the post, all the efforts went in vein.
“Now the whole exercise will be done again and we are going to do it,” the chief minister said.
According to the statement, a high power committee was selected along with the chairman, but when the appointment was about to be given, elections came and the process could not be completed.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said as the new government is formed, a meeting will be called and all procedures will be followed.
