Tourist taxi association condemns assault on member by toll plaza staff

NONGPOH: Following the assault of one of its members at Toll Plaza in Ri Bhoi District, the  tourist taxi drivers under the umbrella of the Hynniewtrep Tourist Taxi Association on Monday condemned the barbaric action of the toll plaza staff and also demanded drastic action against those involved in assaulting one of the tourist drivers.

It may be mentioned that on Sunday afternoon, one tourist driver Hektorius Pariong who was on his way back from Guwahati Airport on Government duty, on reaching the toll plaza at Pahammawlein, 20 mile Ri Bhoi district was assaulted by the toll plaza staffs even after paying the road tax at the plaza.

However, regarding the assault of its member of the Association, the Hynniewtrep Tourist Taxi Association led by its general secretary Ioanis Lyngdoh along with other and in the presence of other of NGO leaders reached the toll plaza to inquire about the incident and also to seek further action against those involved in the assaulting case.

On reaching the toll plaza at Pahammawlein, 20 Mile, the leaders of the tourist association were stopped by the Ri Bhoi District Police who had already stationed its men at the toll plaza and after the argument, they were allowed to take up the matter with the authority of the toll plaza, Sahakar Global Pvt Ltd.

Over discussion between the leaders of the Association and the authority of the toll plaza which includes Manager of the Sahakar Global Ltd, Anup Bal in the presence of the police officers and the magistrate, the identity of those involved in the assault were identified as Krishna Sharma, Subhash Padav and Sonu Verma who were the staff of the toll plaza.

Speaking with the leader of the Hynniewtrep Taxi Tourist Association, Ioanis Lyngdoh after the meeting with authority of the toll plaza, said that, the Association the association had demanded legal action against those involved in the assault and also make the toll plaza staff behave properly while dealing with  the taxpayers riding through the national highway.

The manager of the Sahakar Global Pvt. Ltd apologised for the incident and assured that such incident would not recur in future besides promising  stern action against those involved in the assault of the tourist  taxi driver.
