211 candidates forfeit deposit

SHILLONG: As many as 211 candidates out of the total 361 forfeited security deposits in the just concluded Assembly polls.
Candidates who secured 16 per cent and below of the total votes polled lost the security deposit.
The deposit for ST candidates is Rs 5,000 and for general it is Rs 10,000.
As per data, 191 male and 20 female candidates lost the security deposit.
In Phulbari, none of the candidates forfeited the security deposit whereas the maximum number of candidates who lost the money is in Rongjeng with nine followed by North Tura with eight.
Seven candidates from each of these constituencies — Mawhati, Tikrikilla, Dadenggre and South Tura — also lost the deposit.
The number of candidates who forfeited the deposit in the urban constituencies is Pynthorumkhrah (4), Mawlai (4), East Shillong (2), North Shillong (4), West Shillong (2), South Shillong (3) and Nongthymmai (4).
The prominent among those who lost the money include former deputy chief ministers Rowell Lyngdoh and Bindo Lanong, former MLAs John Leslee Sangma, Bluebell Sangma, Ismail Marak, KC Boro, Michael T Sangma, Edmund Sangma, John Manner Marak, Donkupar Massar, PW Khongjee, Nimarson Momin, Nithuram Hajong, ECB Bamon, Draison Kharshiing and Pynshai Manik Syiem.
The MDCs, Hadrian Lyngdoh, HS Shylla, Latiplang Kharkongor, Ricky Shullai, James Sylliang and Violet Lyngdoh are also on the list.
Others are former GHADC CEM Boston Marak, former ANVC leader Bernard Marak, Starfing Pdahkasiej, John Kharshiing and Sounder Cajee.
