SHILLONG: A common candidate of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance is likely to be fielded in Ampati for the by-polls.
Former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma recently vacated the Ampati seat to pave way for his daughter Miani D Shira to retain the seat.
Sources said BJP candidate Bakul Hajong, who was defeated by Mukul, will be fielded yet again by the saffron party for the by polls.
However, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said though the party has a candidate, the final decision will be taken by the Delhi leadership.
During the just concluded February 27 polls, NPP had not put up any candidate for Ampati.
Lyngdoh said the ruling MDA will meet to discuss about putting up a common candidate for Ampati.
