SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has objected to the Transport Department’s notification making Fastag mandatory.
In a statement released on Tuesday, KHNAM said Fastag is a device that is affixed on the windscreen of the vehicle which allows the drivers to drive through the toll plazas without stopping for cash transaction. Fitment of Fastag has been made mandatory through car dealers before delivering the new cars to the customers. “Most of the vehicles bought by the customers in the state are plying on local roads. Local taxis are confined only to Shillong City or other districts. But they are being forced to pay Rs 500 per car while buying a new car which seems like a daylight robbery affecting the citizen of the state,” KHNAM said.
The KHNAM demanded that Fastag system should be made optional for customers with immediate effectand notification on the same be circulated to all car dealers.
