Adelbert feted
SHILLONG: The Jail Road Welfare Committee organised a meeting between its residents and Adelbert Nongrum, MLA, North Shillong on March 25 at 7 PM at Sikdar Memorial Hall. In the meeting, Nongrum spelt out his policies and exchanged views with the residents.
SBI Youth for India 2018-19 batch begins
SHILLONG: The SBI Youth for India, flagship programme for the 2018-2019 batch has started. It is a 13-month long fellowship programme that enables India’s brightest young minds to work on rural development projects with experienced NGOs. The fellowship offers a platform in the country to find solutions for rural India’s most pressing challenges. The fellowship was launched in 2011, in partnership with three reputed NGOs and 27 fellows of the pilot batch completed it successfully. After a review of its impact, the fellowship was scaled up and in September 2014, the second batch started. The applications for the year 2018-19 have been open and the interested persons should submit the applications online. For further detail log on to www.sbiyouthforindia.org.

Hindi workshop held
SHILLONG: A one-day Hindi Workshop was held in the office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Meghalaya on Tuesday. The workshop was inaugurated by Hari Prakash, Deputy Accountant General (ES-II) in the presence of Binod Bhujel, Welfare Officer & Secretary and P.R. Ryngkhlem, Establishment Officer. 16 officials of the office participated in the workshop. On this occasion Dr. Bikram Thapa, Senior Lecturer, Department of Hindi, B.B.S. College was invited as a faculty member and he enlightened the participants on how to use Hindi in noting and drafting, letter writing and others in the office works.

Mushroom Field Day celebration at ICAR 
JOWAI: Mushroom Field Day with the theme “Mushroom cultivation for doubling Farmers’ Income” was celebrated at Plant Pathology Farm, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam (under AICRP on Mushroom) on Tuesday. As many as 47 farmers from different villages attended the programme. The farmers were apprised about the importance of mushroom cultivation and its role in doubling their income. Information related to quantum of paddy straw availability in the region which can be successfully utilised for mushroom cultivation for income generation and also the scope of growing mushrooms round the year (technology developed by ICAR, Umaim for round the year cultivation of Oyster mushroom) was also provided to them. Programme included visit to low cost mushroom houses in Plant Pathology, demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation and hands-on and also discussion on scope of mushroom cultivation. Technical bulletin (in Khasi language- “Ka jingrep tit bad ka rukom pynmih symbai tit”) related to Mushroom cultivation and spawn production was also distributed along with Knapsack sprayers, polythene and spawn to the farmers.
