SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has asked the vice chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) to start teaching foreign languages in the university particularly Japanese and Mandarin as these languages would benefit the students of the region.
Sangma felt that as the state is coming up with various projects with Japan based companies, therefore learning these languages will benefit the students in many ways.
The vice chancellor of EFLU Prof. E. Suresh Kumar called upon the Chief Minister’s office to intervene into making the university available for students of the state and the northeast in general.
The vice chancellor informed the chief minister that the Shillong Campus of the university is not being used extensively as there are very few local students who are enrolled in the university.
