SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem and members of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep will meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma soon to discuss the alleged encroachment of scheduled areas by MUDA.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Syiem said the KHADC, the Synjuk and other stakeholders will initiate talks with the new government, the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
According to him,
the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act, 1973, states in Section 1 sub-section (2) that the Act will extend to the whole of Meghalaya, excluding autonomous districts.
However, in the amended Act of 2004, the section 1 sub-section (2) did not mention about the exclusion of the autonomous areas saying, “It shall come into force at once.”
MUDA enforced the Meghalaya Building Bye-laws, 2001, for regulating construction and maintenance of buildings. The bylaws were applicable to all urban areas within the state.
Subsequently, the revised bylaws of 2011 were enforced and published in the official gazette of Meghalaya through a notification on July 21, 2011, and it extended to all master plan and scheme areas.
