SHILLONG: The family of Pooja Prasad, who allegedly committed suicide in Pynthorumkhrah following torture over dowry, has urged police to object to the anticipatory bail granted to Joginer Prasad Sah and Madhuri Prasad Sah, the accused in-laws.
In a petition submitted to the officer in charge of Sadar police station, complainant Usha Sah accused that her niece was killed by her in-laws. Joginer and Madhuri were granted anticipatory bail for eight days.
Usha lamented that no objection was raised by the additional public prosecutor against granting interim anticipatory bail to the accused persons. She said if the two accused are set free, they will tamper with the evidence and intimidate witnesses.
Earlier, Puja’s husband, Ravi Shankar Prasad, was arrested.
Meanwhile, the residents of Pynthorumkhrah organised a candle light rally in the area on Sunday to condemn the incident.
