SHILLONG: SPARK, a local NGO, is sensitising a section of the rural populace on crimes against women and children and the role of society in checking such incidents.
During its four-day workshop that started on Wednesday at Mawlong village, the NGO will make people from all walks of life — teachers, community leaders and youths — aware of the existing laws, schemes, rights and the need for capacity building by every individual to deal with the various social issues, a statement from SPARK said.
The programme — supported by the State Bank of India, Zonal Branch, Bawri Mansion, Dhankheti, — aims to cover more than 300 participants.
The chairperson of the State Commissioner for Protection of Child Rights, Meena Kharkongor spoke on Wednesday. Her speech was focused on human trafficking and rights.
