TURA: Petrol pump owners from Tura and its adjoining areas have urged the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the quick release of four persons, who were apprehended on Tuesday afternoon in Tura, for allegedly impersonating as NGO members and attempting to extort money.

The four persons, Troilen Deka, Rahul Choudhary, Kanak Baishya and Pitus R Marak while claiming to be members of an NGO, Jana Jagran Welfare Association, were attempting to check adulteration of fuel supply at S C Das petrol station in Hawakhana, when they were caught by the Tura Police. The four had even claimed to have the authorization from the central ministry for consumer affairs.

In their petition to the deputy commissioner the fuel pump owners expressed shock over their early release and sought the conduct of an inquiry.

“It is shocking that they were set free so quickly. They have visited various petrol pumps posing as officials of the ministry for consumer affairs and extorted huge amounts of money from them,” they said, and urged the DC to personally look into the matter.

Meanwhile, all attempts to contact the Superintendent of police to get his take on the matter failed as repeated calls to his personal mobile phone could not get through.
