Cabinet nod to higher edu council

SHILLONG: The state Cabinet has approved the constitution of the Meghalaya State Higher Education Council.
Talking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Prestone Tynsong said the role of the council is to promote academic excellence and social justice in policy formulation and perspective planning ensuring autonomy and accountability of education.
The chairman of the Council will be Minister in charge, Higher and Technical Education, while the NEHU vice-chancellor will be the vice chairman. Other official members of the council include the chief secretary, the principal secretary, education, director higher and technical education, nominees from the MHRD, UGC and others.
