One killed, 1 injured as car of minister’s son collides with bike

SHILLONG: A prison guard died while his colleague from the 1st MLP battalion sustained serious injuries s after a two wheeler in which they were travelling had a head on collision with another car belonging to Aibansharai Nongsiej, son of the son of the Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek.

Police said that the accident took place late Friday night at 12.45 AM near Fourth Furlong tri -unction when a Mercedes having a temporary registration number (AS 01TC 279) driven by 28-year-old Aibansharai Nongsiej collided head-on with one motor bike (MLO5J 0913)

The two wheeler was ridden by Probin D. sangma (38), prison guard with pillion rider Probat R Marak from 1st MLP battalion.

While Probin D. Sangma was declared brought dead at the Shillong Civil Hospital, Probat R Marak’s condition was stated to be critical.

East Khasi Hills SP, Davis Marak said that the police were investigating into the matter as to see whose fault it was behind the accident.

He further said that the police would record the statement of the Probat R Marak after his condition improved and so far no one had been arrested in this connection.

According to Marak, all the formalities of medical tests had been completed and police were now awaiting the reports.

On the other hand, AL Hek said that he did not know as to whose fault it was which led to the accident.

“I was not there in the spot and as soon as I came to know, I rushed to the Civil Hospital to see the those who were injured in the accident,” Hek said.

Stating that the Government would conduct a fair investigation into the matter, Hek also said that the person because of whose fault accident took place must be   punished and there was no compromise on the matter.

When asked if he would offer compensation to the victims, Hek said, “In my personal capacity, I will do whatever I can for the people who were involved in the accidents and I have told the doctor to tell me if they need anything for the treatment.”
