SHILLONG: The state government on Friday approved the contribution pension scheme for teaching and non-teaching staff of deficit colleges in the state.
Briefing media persons after the Cabinet meeting, government spokesperson and Cabinet minister, Prestone Tynsong, said earlier they used to keep the deducted amount from their salary in a society in their respective institutions which is totally illegal as per the CPF Act.
“We would like to help them out by allowing them to enjoy the pension since the deficit teachers are not entitled to pension,” Tynsong told reporters while pointing out that the scheme will be effective from the day the notification comes out.
According to Tynsong, the pattern for pension is more or less like government employees and under the proposal eight percent will be borne out by the government while 4 percent will be contributed by the staff.
The amount will be deposited in the provident fund and they will enjoy the benefits when they retire, Tynsong said, adding that the government will incur an expense of around Rs 40 lakh annually.
Meanwhile, Tynsong also informed that the State Cabinet has approved appointments to three posts in Shillong Polytechnic which includes two posts of Civil Engineer and one post of Computer Science.
