SHILLONG: Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek, while inaugurating a five-day-long exhibition on ‘New India- We Resolve to Make’ at Golf Links Community Hall on Saturday, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi requires the contribution of every citizen to make New India possible.
The exhibition is being organised by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (Regional Outreach Bureau) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Hek said the programme of Sankalp Se Siddhi (Achievement through Resolve) was akin to Quit India clarion call of 1942.
“Under the New India resolve, the Prime Minister has urged to cleanse India of poverty, garbage, terrorism, corruption, casteism and communalism,” he added. The minister, who spoke on various welfare schemes of the Centre, appreciated the efforts of the department for organising the exhibition. Shillong Press Club president David O Laitphlang, who was the guest of honour, said these exhibitions are crucial for spreading awareness on government schemes and policies. “The New India resolve is the need of the hour and if everyone contributes in their own way the six goals may be well achieved before 2022.”
Laitphlang also said for the successful implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, people also need to be “swacch” (clean). He added that the idea of hatred on the basis of caste colour and creed must be eliminated. Regional Outreach Bureau head for Assam and Meghalaya Ahmed Muyeen Farooqi earlier spoke on the Sankalp pledge taken earlier on October 2017.
A quiz competition was organised for schoolchildren. Later, the minister also distributed prizes to the winners. Senior officers from DDK, PIB, All India Radio, social workers and eminent journalists attended the inauguration ceremony. The exhibition will be open till April 11 and entry is free.
