SHILLONG: The North Eastern Council (NEC) and other regional bodies have signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbnb, a US-based community-driven hospitality company, to give a fillip to the tourism sector in the North East.
The North East Tourism Department Council, North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project and the North East Rural Livelihood Project and NEC will work closely with the US company to empower home-stay entrepreneurs across the region by aligning with state governments and other stakeholders, including local organisations.
A meeting was held to discuss the implementation of MoU that was signed in New Delhi last month in presence of DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh.
NEC Secretary Ram Muivah has suggested that the team identify key festivals and destinations to promote home-stay entrepreneurs. The possibility of gearing up support for the National Games 2022 being in Shillong was also discussed. The meeting discussed the key milestones of the project, which included bringing on Airbnb the existing home-stays in the North East and training new ones with support of NEC.
