SHILLONG: A transformer got damaged following incidents of natural calamity which kept some villages at Mawtap, Sohiong and other rural areas in the dark for one week.

In this connection, the working president of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), THS Bonney met the Director Distribution and Chief Engineer of MeECL to apprise them about the condition of villages.

In a statement issued here, Bonney said people were reportedly told that it would take two months to get a new transformer, which has disappointed the people.

He added that the negligent attitude in changing the transformer amounted to looking down upon the rural people.

Bonney said that Chief Engineer KN War had assured him that a new transformer will be installed within a week.
