SHILLONG: Customs sleuths on late Wednesday evening intercepted a 14 wheeler truck and seized 497 kgs of ganja.
Deputy Commissioner of Custom Preemptive,Isaac Kharkongor told reporters that the ganja was concealed in a rubber sheet inside the 14 wheeler truck and the consignment was recovered from the truck (UP 53 ET 2607) in Shillong bypass near Mawryngkneng.
The preventive unit has also arrested the driver and the handyman of the truck who have been identified as Rakesh singh and Rajesh Mina
Kharkongor informed that as per the preliminary investigation, the truck was coming from Tripura and it was destined for Guwahati, adding that the unit had laid surveillance on the truck since Tuesday night
Admitting that Meghalaya is being used a transit route for transporting ganja from Tripura to locations like UP and Bihar, he informed that the unit in the last two and half years have seized more than 10000 kgs of ganja.
