SHILLONG: A resident of Shillong, who is also a defence pensioner, is paying for the mistake of his bank that has overpaid her.
Nisthoda Marbaniang received Rs 3,33,659 in her pension account with SBI DGAR Branch located at Arbuthnot Road area of Laitumkhrah by the Central Pension Processing Centre (CPPC), Guwahati. The bank has now issued her a letter BM/36/PENSION/36/358 dated 23/03/2018 informing her that the CPPC, has instructed the bank to recover the amount from her.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Marbabniang said Rs 1,58,000 has already been recovered from her account’s available balance and the remaining Rs 2,11,650 needs to be repaid.
The pensioner in her letter dated March 23 had informed the branch manager of the SBI has informed that an amount of Rs 7,579 is being deducted from her account every month and requested the BM not to deduct the balance amount of Rs. 2,11,650 at one go rather deduct it at the prevailing installment rate since she is having certain financial commitments, the statement said.
The pensioner alleged that the bank has arbitrarily deducted Rs 1,58,000 despite her request. She has even requested the BM to operationalise her bank account which has since been freezed by the bank.
Marbaniang in the statement said that over these months she wasn’t aware about the overpayment into her pension account since there has been no communication until the recent ones by the bank regarding the overpayment.
She also alleged in her letter that the pension, which has been revised w.e.f. January 1, 2016, has not yet been credited to her account. She has even urged upon the bank that once the arrear amount is cleared, the balance overpaid amount may be deducted from this revised arrear amount.
But the bank is insisting on her to clear the balance overpaid amount immediately. The pensioner, on the other hand, has now sought details of the overpaid amount credited to her account by the bank.
