SHILLONG: Nonthymmai MLA, Charles Pyngrope has urged the State Government to establish a centre to house the stay animals in the city.
Participating in the discussions to the Budget, the MLA from Nongthymmai said that stray animals had nowhere to live even as he added that many people from the state go outside to buy stray dogs and if the centre can be established, people can adopt stray animals right from the centre
The MLA also suggested the Government to ban at least certain type of plastics like what Ooty, a tourist hill station in South India, has done
Making a clarion call for reducing the use of plastics, Pyngrope said that the at least certain type of plastics has to be banned in Meghalaya or else the state would become a laughing stock in the upcoming National Games for being the dirtiest city
Sharing his thoughts on the idea of issuing work permits to Bangladeshi nationals, Pyngrope said that the State instead can issue visa for traders to come and go if the Government intends to improve trade and commerce between Meghalaya and Bangladesh
“We have not reached that stage in Meghalaya to import workforce from outside,” he said
Earlier, Pyngope lamented that Umiam view point which is booming with tourists does not have a basic utility like toilet while warning the Government to take necessary steps failing which
the State would lose tourists as it had happened in the past when Sohra did not had any accommodation except the Inspection Bungalow.
