Period wasted while calling out roll call

SHILLONG: Speaking about congestion in colleges, UDP MLA Nujorki Sungoh from Mookaiaw said, “There are 700 plus students in class XI and it takes a whole one period to call out names of students.”

He was speaking about the congestion in Kiang Nangbah College in Jowai during question hour in the Assembly on Thursday.

Urging the government to look into it as the students are facing difficulty, he asked whether there was any plan to set up separate campus or infrastructure for 10+2.

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the government was looking for land and would shift to the new campus as soon as the government found the land and funds were sanctioned.

Deputy Speaker too walks out !

The members in the Assembly session on Thursday burst into laughter when Deputy Speaker Timothy D. Shira walked out of the Assembly along with the opposition Congress.

The Congress members walked out of the Assembly for a few seconds in protest against the proposed moved of the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to issue work permit to Bangladeshi nationals.

When the opposition members got up, Shira was also seen getting up and walking together with the Congress opposition members.

On seeing the sudden act of Shira, the oldest MLA, the Assembly House lightened up to peals of laughter after a serious discussion on issuing work permit to Bangladeshi nationals.
