SHILLONG: The central executive committee of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) has appealed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to review the demand for increasing the upper age limit for government job applicants.
In a recent petition to Sangma, the GSU said the government should reconsider the upper age limit for general, OBC and Scheduled Tribe applicants to tackle the growing rate of unemployment.
The union stated that a uniform upper age limit of 32 years is unjustified and suggested that the age limit should vary with jobs.
GSU asserted that upper age limit should be reconsidered at least on a par with the UPSC of India, ie upper age limit of 37 years for entry into government jobs with five years relaxation for ST candidates and 10 years for differently abled candidates.
They pointed out that the upper age limit for ST in Assam is 46 years, Arunachal Pradesh 35 years (with different upper age limits for various government jobs), Mizoram 40 years, Nagaland 35 years, Tripura 45, Punjab 42, and Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand is 45.
