‘Minimum wage revised every 6 months’

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said that the minimum wage is revised every six months based on the consumer price index linked to variable dearness allowance.
Replying to a query of KHNAM MLA Adelbert Nongrum on the plans to enhance the earning of employees in non government sectors in view of the implementation of the 5th Pay Commission in the state, Sangma said the minimum wage for casual employees and daily wage earners is determined under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
With regards to private school teachers, the salaries are determined by the respective school management committee, the chief minister added. Replying to supplementary question on whether the ruling of the Supreme Court for ‘equal pay equal work’ is being followed by all the departments, Sangma said the Minimum Wages Act has been passed and is being implemented in Meghalaya.
