100 cases registered under NDPS Act in Meghalaya during Jan, 2015 to June, 2017

SHILLONG:   As many as   100 cases under the NDPS Act has been detected in the eleven districts of Meghalaya from January 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017

An RTI filed by the Dorbar Shnong of Dymmiew with the state police further revealed   that 60 cases were charge-sheeted while five cases   were returned in   final report

According to RTI information, though 163 people have been arrested during the same period but till date there is no conviction

The RTI reveals that highest number of 88 cases were reported in East Khasi Hills district under the NDPS Act. Out of 88 cases in the district, 54 cases were charge-sheeted and 143 people were arrested.

The RTI added that   no cases were reported in East Jaintia Hills and   West Khasi Hills during the period.

Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong has also asked the local Mohendro Rapsang and local MDC Adelbert Nongrum to take necessary steps to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the area.
