Jaintia Hills youth body opposes work permit to Bangladeshis
SHILLONG: After political parties and social organisations, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) central body has raised objection to work permit to Bangladeshi nationals as proposed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. AJYWO president MH Dkhar in a statement issued here argued that it will affect the employment opportunities of the youth in the state. The organisations demanded that the state government led by NPP coalition of Meghalaya Democratic Alliance should not go ahead with the proposal and asked the state government to focus on developmental works of the states.

31st Seng Khasi Sein Raij Lympung concludes
JOWAI: The 31st annual meet of the Seng Khasi – Niamtre organised by the Seng Khihlang concluded here at Sabahmuswang village, West Jaintia Hills on Sunday. Thousands of the traditional faithful of the Seng Khasi Sein Raij from across Khasi and Jaintia Hills witnessed the annual religious meet. State Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Mawhati MLA Dasakhiat Lamare, JHADC Chief Moonlight Pariat also attended the gathering.

Tura college union writes to CM on better infra
TURA: The Captain Williamson Memorial Government College Students’ Union has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma requesting better infrastructure for the college. The union has urged Sangma to construct another building, staff quarters and hostels for both boys and girls and a boundary wall around the college to prevent encroachment. There is also request for a separate higher secondary section, appointment of lecturers for Bengali, History, administrative staff, night chowkidar, two cleaners, a gardener and a deputy librarian. The union wants introduction of Science and Commerce streams in the college, installation of a high-powered diesel generator to deal with power failures and the commissioning of bus service especially, for those attending college from rural areas. In addition, the union also demanded that the college hostel at Bolsalgre which is currently being occupied by the CRPF since the year 2013 is immediately vacated.

Brening gets support for Dalu sub-division
SHILLONG: The Garo Hills State Movement Committee of Dalu Unit has extended support to local MLA, Brening A Sangma for demanding a Sub- Division for Dalu which is one of the oldest Blocks in Garo Hills. Brening raised the issue in the Assembly recently.

Candlelight vigil in Mawsynram
SHILLONG: The Citizens Forum led by Banshai Marbaniang will organise a candlelight vigil in Mawsynram to protest against the death of Banialang Marbaniang, who was abducted and murdered. In a statement issued here, Banshai urged the residents of Mawsynram to come out from their homes with an aim to demand arrest and punishment of the culprits.

Life skill training held in city
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Progressive Foundation (MPF) in collaboration with the of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at St. Edmund’s College held a life skills and capacity building training programme at Iewpomtiah in Nongkrem on Friday. The programme was held under the Chief Minister Youth Development Scheme 2016-17 with support from the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner.
