TURA: Organizations from Garo Hills including the GSU, FKJGP, ADE and AYWO have urged the authorities of the GHADC to remove non-tribal MDC, Sofior Rahman from the post of Forest Advisory Committee’s Chairman which was given to him recently.

In their complaint to new GHADC CEM, Dipul R Marak, the organizations reminded that Rahman was recently embroiled in a controversy for allegedly trying to incite hatred in the social media against the Garos, despite that  he has been given the post.

“We have been demanding for a separate electoral roll for the GHADC elections and the non-participation of non-tribals in the GHADC. It is a valid demand which sanctifies the cry of the people of Garo Hills against the silent invasion of Garo Hills by outsiders. In spite of all these demands, the non-tribal MDC has been given the powers to accommodate the manipulative powers over the forests of Garo Hills,” GSU President, Tengsak G Momin said.

The GSU President went on to state that the MDC was someone who openly considered the idea of a combined non-tribal fight against the Garos despite settling in Garo Hills.

“Now such a person has been made the Chairman of the Council’s Forest Advisory Committee. We want him relieved of the current position he is holding,” Momin warned.

Reminding that their meeting on April 13 at the office of the CEM had been positive, the GSU president on behalf of other supporting NGOs sought the follow up on the promises made on the day, and warned that they would not hesitate to agitate if their demand was not met.
