Students sensitised on responsible tourism & entrepreneurship

SHILLONG: With an eye on improving awareness on responsible tourism practices and to encourage entrepreneurship, Lady Keane College convened a 10-day programme named ‘Responsible Tourism and Entrepreneurship Development’ funded by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUS) from March 29 to April 10
The initiative was taken to encourage holistic tourism practices and develop life skills and entrepreneurial mindsets for young women of the college.
The programme focused on entrepreneurial values, business basics, branding fundamentals and core financials to help establish a meaningful business with minimal negative social, cultural and economic impact on the community.
A number of students who had enrolled from the Tourism department of the college evinced interest in initiating unique and customised tour packages for tourists coming in to Meghalaya.
The Graduation Programme was held in the presence of the Principal C. Massar, the conveners of the programme from the college, faculty of Team Avenues and thirty six graduating participants.
While addressing the programme, Massar, the principal of the college, expressed her appreciation of the training conducted by AVENUES and encouraged the participants to follow their dreams while also remembering to give back to their communities. She further thanked the RUSA for its support.
Mark Stone Laitflang, Managing Director, Group Avenues who was the facilitator of the 10-day programme applauded the aspiring future entrepreneurs who successfully drafted the vision for their businesses while incorporating the values of trust, respect and responsibility for their environment and community.
While sharing her testimony, Diane N Wahlang a student of the Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management of the college stated that the programme has taught her that entrepreneurship is not only limited to individual dreams and aspirations but also is a way of contributing to society by means of employment generation for people.
