GUWAHATI: Leading leather accessories brand, Hidesign plans to open an exclusive boutique in Shillong next year.

“We plan to launch our first outlet in Shillong by 2019. As of now, we are looking for a partner and scouting for a suitable location in the Meghalaya capital,” Mehtaj Zaman Ahmed, regional manager (Northeast), Hidesign, told The Shillong Times on Saturday.

Hidesign opened its second exclusive boutique here on Friday. The outlet located on GS Road is the third in the Northeast. The other exclusive boutique is in Nagaland.

“There are seven multi-brand outlets in the region as well. After the Shillong launch next year, we plan to foray into Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh subsequently,” Ahmed said.

The brand that began in Puducherry with a deep-rooted vision for the country made its Northeast foray in 2010.

The boutiques have an array of items, from office bags, wallets, sunglasses, belts and travel bags among others for both women and men.

Now a part of Louis Vuitton, a multinational luxury goods conglomerate, the brand has grown to 84 exclusive stores with a distribution network in 23 countries.

“People in the Northeast are fashion conscious and the response from customers here has been positive, which is why we are looking at expanding our retail reach across the region,” she said.

Asked whether the plan to open a factory in the Northeast was still on, Ahmed said, “We definitely will need a factory here as it makes logistics sense as the market here is growing. So we are open to setting up a unit in the region.”
