SHILLONG: It was chaos on the road in different parts of Shillong city particularly on the stretch from MES point till Civil Junction on Saturday that witnessed huge traffic jam bringing the traffic to standstill for a long time.

Soon after 5 P.M. the entire stretch was clogged with vehicles and the situation was worse in the stretch from Rhino point till Anjalee point where there was not even one-inch space was left.

The problem occurred as many vehicles proceeding from Butcher Road took turn to drive towards Anjalee Cinema hall and in the process, traffic from both sides were literally stopped.

The long queue of vehicles going towards Anjajee and Iew Mawlong also crossed all limits as the jam from Iew Mawlong reached till Anjalee petrol pump which further worsened the situation

A senior cop looking after the traffic snarls said that there was heavy rush in both Police Bazar and Bar Bazar and huge number of vehicles literally turned the situation into a chaos.

The situation turned bad to such an extent that an ambulance had to make its way to the Hospital from a wrong way and people driving vehicles were courteous enough to give   way to the ambulance.

Seeing the situation going out of hand, extra manpower was deployed in the stretch and even few flying squads were called in to ease the traffic

Till the filing of the report at 8.30 PM, it was informed that the roads were still full of vehicles and jam was somehow crawling.
