SHILLONG: Chief Secretary Y Tsering will write to his Assam counterpart to resume border talks. The neighbouring state is yet to respond to Meghalaya’s requests for dialogue to solve the deadlock.
An official source said on Friday since Assam had responded in the past citing paucity of time, the state chief secretary will write again for the chief secretary level border talks.
The last time Meghalaya had written to Assam for a meeting was in December 2017.
“With the new chief secretary assuming office in Assam, the state chief secretary wants to start fresh communication,” the source added.
The issue of border dispute with Assam had figured in the just concluded Budget session of the Assembly.
Though Meghalaya had submitted sufficient documents to Assam regarding the 12 areas of difference, the neighbouring state had not responded.
There has been no progress on the border talks for the last few years and there were sporadic incidents of violation of status quo triggering tension in the past.
